Anjana.S.Mohanan, born as the daughter of well-known Kathakali Actor Fact Mohanan Nair and versatile classical dancer, Kalamandalam Sreedevi Mohanan, commenced her training in Bharathanatyam under the tutelage of her mother at the age of three. Then she learned Mohiniyattam as well from her mother and made her first performance at Sree Parthasaradhy temple Aranmula. She is the first rank holder for both Graduation and Post-Graduation in Bharathanatyam. She has done her Graduation at St.Teresa’s College, Cochin and Post-Graduation at R.L.V.College of Music and Fine Arts, Tripunithura (M.G. University). At present she is working as a Guest Lecturer in Bharathanatyam at R.L.V.College of Music and Fine Arts, Tripunithura. She is also pursuing her higher studies in Bharathanatyam under A Lakshmanaswamy, Chennai and Kuchipudy under Smt. Geetha Padmakumar (Disciple of Padmabhooshan Dr. Vempatti Chinnasatyam). She is an A grade artist for Mohiniyattam in Doordarsan Kendra TVM and she has received scholarship for Mohiniyattam from CCRT, New Delhi and Senior Scholarship holder in Bharathanatyam. She is a Carnatic vocalist too. She has participated in many camps conducted under the guidance of eminent artists.
She performed in many cultural programmes all over India – Nizamabad, Guinness world recorded Mohiniyattom programme (with 1000 dancers) conducted by Art of Living Silver jubilee celebrations at Jawaharlal Nehru International Stadium- Cochin, Jadavpur University- Kolkata, Asansol, Doverlane Music Conference- Kolkata, Chandigarh, Rajasthan, Kharagpur , Unity in Diversity- Hyderabad, New Delhi and Shillong, ‘INDUMATI SABHAGRIHA- Kolkata, Theerdhapadamandapam, Thiruvananthapuram, Changampuzha Park, Cochin (Bharathanatyam programmes organized by I.C.C.R, Thiruppathy, Doordarshan Kendra- Thiruvananthapuram, ‘Nrithamandapam’ programme of Jeevan TV, Navarathri Programme of Asianet Cable Vision and almost all major temples in Kerala.
She performed Nangiyarkoothu [female character in Koodiyattam] in Aranmula “Sree Parthasaradhy Dance and Music festival”. She has participated in Chembai Sangeethotsavam, Guruvayoor temple. She had Bharathanatyam and Carnatic Music concert at Kerala Kalamandalam, Cheruthuruthy, Trissur.
She worked with her mother for the choreographies like Sreesankaram, Sreekrishnaamrutham, Ramayanam, Nirvedam, Sishyanum makanum, Ashtalekshmi(lighting only with the traditional lamps), Navaragamalika, Keraleeyam, Meenakshikalyanam, Samanvayam and Manjutharam (Geetha-Vadya-Nrutha Sangamam).
She choreographed many items – Vinayaka sthuthies, Varnams, Keerthanams, Padams, Thillanas, special work “Bible” story “SYAMARIANGANA” (Mohiniyattam). She has also written Thillanas by herself. She choreographed ‘Rasaranjini’, Ganesa Pancharatnam, Dasavatharam, Ramayanam, Leelamadhavam, Ramakadhamrutham etc. She had done a special work ‘Peeyush’ with her mother and Guru Siddhartha Roy Chowdhury, Kolkata in Vyloppilly Samskrithy Bhavan, TVM. ‘Sopanam’ is another special work done by her including Keralite art forms Kathakali, Mohiniyattam and martial art Kalarippayattu for Kumbalgarh festival – Rajasthan.
She received the Best Student Award from the Department of Bharathanatyam, St.Teresa’s College, and P.T.A endowment award from R.L.V.College of Music and Fine Arts, Tripunithura for securing highest marks in M.A.Bharathanatyam. She won the title “Kalathilakam” in Youth festivals and NSS Union Kalolsavam. She won” Kalasri puraskaram”, ‘Yuvasri Kalabharathi and has achieved wide appreciation for her performances and choreographies. She has also been the judge for many youth festivals including State and University level competitions.
